UF Health Neurodevelopmental Pediatrics brings together a team of specialists including physicians, psychologists, speech and language pathologists, and educational coordinators.

We evaluate and treat children with delays that may be overcome with early treatment, as well as lifelong conditions that may be alleviated with ongoing support and appropriate interventions.

Our team serves children with:

  • Delays in development (walking, talking, and self-care)
  • School and learning disorders
  • Attention disorders
  • Autistic disorders
  • Developmental delays associated with a wide variety of diagnoses such as genetic disorders, cerebral palsy, vision and hearing disorders and prematurity.

Services

The following services are available through specialized programs:

Center for Autism and Related Disabilities (CARD)

The Center for Autism and Related Disabilities provides customized, direct assistance to individuals with autism spectrum disorders and those with more than one sensory (hearing or vision) loss. Services include referrals, parent workshops, psychiatric consultation, genetic testing, case coordination, service planning, family support, nonresidential assistance and community outreach programs.

Early Steps Program (Early Intervention Program)

The Early Steps Program offers identification and intervention services for families with infants and toddlers (birth to 36 months) who have a delay, such as walking, talking, hearing or seeing, or have an established condition, such cerebral palsy, that is likely to result in a developmental delay. Individualized plans of care and case management are provided. Children and families from the six northeast Florida counties (Baker, Bradford, Clay, Duval, Nassau and St. Johns) are connected to trained early intervention teams serving in locations where families normally live, work and play.

Florida Diagnostic and Learning Resources System – Multidisciplinary Center

The Florida Diagnostic and Learning Resources System – Multidisciplinary Center (FDLRS-MDC) provides academic and cognitive evaluations services to individuals from 3 to 22 years of age, who have not yet completed high school and who have been diagnosed with complex behavioral, developmental, medical and/or learning disorders. FDLRS-MDC uses a multidisciplinary diagnostic clinic approach. The multidisciplinary team consists of professionals from education, neurodevelopmental pediatrics, psychology and communicative disorders. The program provides in-service and pre-service trainings for educators, parents/caregivers and community agencies. FDLRS-MDC also provides strategies and recommendations to families based upon the needs of their children.

Pediatric Hearing Program

An audiologist and registered nurse screen all UF Health Jacksonville newborns for hearing loss and provide in-depth hearing evaluations for babies and children up to age 3.
