Executive Director

Kelley manages daily operations of the program, including oversight of patient scheduling and program implementation, support of clinical staff development and training, analysis of programmatic data and research metrics for program enhancement. She has a doctorate in physical therapy and 20 years of clinical and managerial experience in rehabilitation services.

Michael Sorna, MD

Michael Sorna, MD

Medical Director

Dr. Sorna is an assistant professor of psychiatry at the University of Florida College of Medicine – Jacksonville. He is medical director of addiction psychiatry services and medical director of UF Health Jacksonville Leon L. Haley Jr., M.D., Brain Wellness Program. He is a former Naval Aviator and retired Army Reserve Officer with deployments in Afghanistan, Iraq, Kosovo and Pakistan.

Scott Silliman, MD

Neurologist

Dr. Silliman is a professor of neurology at the University of Florida College of Medicine – Jacksonville, where he has been a faculty member since 1996. Dr. Silliman has extensive experience in managing patients with brain injury and chronic disorders that can affect the brain.

Clinical Neuropsychologist

Dr. Bryant is an assistant professor of psychiatry at the University of Florida College of Medicine – Jacksonville. Dr. Bryant has clinical and research interests in traumatic brain injury, mental health, substance use disorder, gut-brain axis, neurodegenerative disorders and HIV-associated neurocognitive disorders.

Tierney Shaffer, MSW, LCSW

Clinical Navigator

Tierney has more than 16 years of experience and training in mental health counseling and clinical social work in various settings, including child welfare, treatment centers, hospitals, in-home family interventions and the Department of Corrections.

Ron Hasty

Veterans Outreach Coordinator

Ron provides support services for veterans and their dependents, including coordinating with the Department of Veterans Affairs. Ron served 22 years in the U.S. Air Force. In addition to the United States, Ron has been been stationed in England, Germany, Japan and Korea.

Pharmacist

Adrienne is a clinical pharmacy specialist in ambulatory care at UF Health Jacksonville. She is board-certified in ambulatory care pharmacy. She has practice experience in various areas of pharmacy, including neurology, specialty pharmacy and pain management.

Neal graduated from Massachusetts General Hospital Institute of Health Professions with a doctorate of physical therapy. His passion for serving veterans began in Boston while he was volunteering his time at a homeless shelter for veterans.

Michelle joins the Brain Wellness Program as a speech-language pathologist. She has extensive health care experience providing services to people with conditions that affect swallowing, voice, speech, communication and cognition.

Art Therapist

Chelsea has more than 20 years of experience in the field of education. She has hosted art therapy workshops and provided pet therapy to residents in nursing homes, as well as assisted with therapeutic horseback riding for individuals with special needs.

Somatic Movement Therapist

Howard began studying Tai Chi in 2010 and started teaching in 2015. He has introduced veterans at the University of North Florida to the health benefits of this meditative exercise.

Dr. Van Vleet Goelz has a doctorate in clinical somatic psychology and has been teaching Tai Chi for more than 30 years.

Bethany has helped medical residents, physicians, nurses, social workers, chaplains, psychologists, psychology fellows and others through mindfulness teaching and trainings. She is certified as a mindfulness for professionals facilitator through the Mindfulness Training Institute.
