Kidney Cancer
In 2004, UF Health Jacksonville launched North Florida's first Genitourinary Oncology
Program to provide a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach to the diagnosis
and treatment of patients with genitourinary cancers (cancers of the prostate, bladder,
kidney, testis and penis). In this approach, patients receive coordinated, compassionate
and quality cancer care from specialists in urologic oncology,
radiation oncology,
medical oncology, pathology
and radiology.
The program consists of University of Florida physician specialists and healthcare
professionals working together to provide state-of-the-art cancer treatment. Support
is also provided to patients by a group of skilled pharmacists, nurses, case workers
and nutritionists.
Genitourinary Oncology Program clinicians meet weekly to evaluate patient profiles
and to thoroughly discuss appropriate treatment plans. Multidisciplinary approaches
to diagnosis and treatment include minimally invasive surgery, the latest technology
in conformal radiotherapy and access to new cancer treatments and research through
the program's affiliation with national clinical trials.
