Having a Baby at UF Health Jacksonville

The birth of your baby is one of life’s most meaningful moments, and your safety is our top priority. Our Labor and Delivery Unit features 16 private suites designed to provide a calm and comfortable environment for your delivery. You’ll be cared for by a team of highly skilled UF Health physicians, providers, nurses and support staff.

We offer around-the-clock care from:

  • Board-certified obstetricians
  • Certified nurse midwives
  • Maternal-fetal medicine specialists
  • Neonatal nurse practitioners
  • Neonatologists

Whether your delivery is considered routine or high risk, our expert team is here 24/7 to support you and your newborn. The Labor and Delivery Unit is located on the third floor of the Clinical Center.

Parking and Entrance Information

Patient and visitor parking is available in the parking garage next to the Clinical Center.

You can enter the garage from:

  • The main entrance on 8th Street
  • A second entrance on Jefferson Street

Labor and Delivery Security

You and your baby’s safety are our highest priority. To help ensure a secure environment, you, your baby and your support person will receive matching ID bracelets. Your baby will also wear a security sensor that remains in place until discharge.

All Women’s Specialists team members wear pink ID badges with their photo, name and title clearly displayed.

Never give your baby to anyone without an official badge. If you have concerns about anyone asking for your baby, please alert your nurse immediately.

Women’s Acute Care Center

The Women’s Acute Care Center provides 24/7 emergency care for pregnant women who are 20 weeks gestation or later. Our experienced medical staff is always on-site to respond to urgent pregnancy-related concerns during the second half of pregnancy.

If You Are 20 Weeks or More:

Go directly to Labor and Delivery on the third floor of the Clinical Center.

  • No appointment is necessary
  • Do not go to the Emergency Department

If You Are Less Than 20 Weeks:

Please visit the Emergency Department for care.

Comfortable, Supportive Birthing Experience

We’re committed to making your delivery experience as safe, personal, and comfortable as possible.

Our 16 private labor and delivery rooms are spacious and thoughtfully designed. Each room features:

  • A calm, supportive environment for both routine and complex deliveries
  • Reclining chair or convertible bed for an overnight guest
  • Wireless fetal monitoring so you can move freely during labor, when circumstances allow

We proudly support a wide range of birthing plans and work with you to honor your preferences—as long as it remains safe for both mother and baby.

Obstetric operating rooms

For planned or emergency cesarean sections, we have three dedicated obstetric operating rooms located within the Labor and Delivery Unit. All labor and delivery staff are fully trained in operating room procedures, ensuring seamless, timely care without unnecessary delays.

Whether your C-section is scheduled or unexpected, you’ll be in the hands of a highly skilled team ready to respond with expertise and compassion.

Visitor Guidelines for Labor and Delivery

Visitors are welcome in the birthing suite at the patient’s request. To maintain a safe and supportive environment, please note the following guidelines:

Visitor Access

  • All visitors must present photo identification (e.g., driver’s license, state ID, or employee badge) to enter the unit.
  • The number of visitors may be limited based on the situation.
  • Visitors may be asked to step out during the birth or certain procedures.

Children

  • Children are allowed at the patient’s request and with nurse approval.
  • Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

Waiting Area

Visitors not in a patient’s room are encouraged to use the family waiting room, located near the Labor and Delivery Unit.
