Shirley Alleyne, M.B, B.S., DFAACAP, is an assistant professor of psychiatry at the University of Florida College of Medicine – Jacksonville, and is the associate program director of the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship Program. Dr. Alleyne received her medical degree from The University of the West Indies, completing general and child psychiatry training at SUNY Upstate Medical University and Yale University respectively. Dr. Alleyne’s research and career focus has been on the development and evaluation of unconventional child and adolescent psychiatry services for underserved communities and career development in the field of medicine.
Dr. Alleyne is an incoming counselor-at-large for the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry’s (AACAP) Executive Committee, a member of the Academy’s school committee and reviewer for its journal. Dr. Alleyne served as co-chair of AACAP’s Global Mental Health and International Relations Committee for nine years, her commitment to global mental health has been fostered through consultancy with the World Health Organization.
Dr. Alleyne has received several awards for clinical excellence and teaching, including the Melvin Lewis Award for Excellence in Medical Student Education during Child and Adolescent Psychiatry training (2007), the Teacher of the Year Award in the department of psychiatry (2018) and the Exemplary Teacher Award from the University of Florida over the past two years.
