UF Health Jacksonville Opens Second Hospital Tower on North Campus
UF Health Jacksonville cut the ribbon today on its latest expansion of UF Health North, a state-of-the-art campus that continues to grow to meet the needs of residents in Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia.
Leaders of the University of Florida, UF Health, the UF College of Medicine – Jacksonville, and UF Jacksonville Physicians, Inc., joined local government and civic officials as well as key stakeholders to officially open UF Health North’s second hospital bed tower, which more than doubles the bed space available for patients throughout the community.
“This is another significant step as the University of Florida and UF Health expand our reach and dedication to education, innovation, and health care throughout Northeast Florida,” said Ben Sasse, president of the University of Florida. “One question we always need to ask is, ‘How can we make people’s lives better?’ We’re doing just that with the expansion of medical facilities like this one, and initiatives such as our new Jacksonville campus for graduate education, and I’m proud to lead this great university as it continues to move forward.”
The second hospital tower includes six floors and 124 patient rooms. Above the main floor, two floors are dedicated to patients who require acute physical therapy. Two additional patient floors will be used for acute care, and one floor will be used primarily for ancillary services.
“UF Health North has been embraced by this community, and that’s in large part due to the people who work here, who each and every day dedicate themselves to offering excellent patient care in this region,” said Stephen J. Motew, MD, MHA, FACS, UF Health president and system CEO. “We are committed to providing high-quality, compassionate care that’s convenient for patients, and we look forward to meeting the growing needs of residents here and throughout Florida.”
UF Health North opened the first phase of the campus in 2015, a medical office building that includes a 24/7 emergency room, outpatient surgery suites, imaging and other diagnostic services, and four floors of physicians’ offices. Phase 2 opened in May 2017, a 92-bed inpatient tower that consists of five floors, four with all private patient rooms. There is a 20-bed unit dedicated to labor and delivery and other women’s services, a 24-bed floor dedicated to intensive care, two 24-bed floors dedicated to general medical inpatients, and one floor for administrative services, a chapel, a cafeteria, and more.
“UF Health North has proven itself to be an integral part of this community, providing the most advanced health care possible, led by a dedicated team of professionals focused on compassion and on solutions,” said Patrick L. Green, FACHE, CEO of UF Health Jacksonville. “We’re proud to provide this amazing resource to the community, which expands our presence even further in the region.”
The new bed tower includes a unique collaboration between UF Health and Select Medical, which provides state-of-the-art physical rehabilitation services throughout the country. The second and third floors of the new hospital are dedicated to the initiative and include bed space, a dedicated gymnasium, outdoor space, and other resources to help patients recover as quickly as possible.
