Consultation-Liaison Services

Consultation-liaison services, or psychosomatic medicine, are provided at UF Health Jacksonville. Consultation-liaison psychiatry is dedicated to assisting clinical staff and patients by providing evaluation and treatment of psychiatric illnesses which can arise in the presence of a primary medical illness. Prompt evaluation and treatment of psychiatric illnesses is often essential in optimizing care for the medical patient as underlying psychiatric issues can often exacerbate the primary medical issue, increase length of stay in the hospital or hinder effective medical treatment. The psychiatric consultant can help distinguish if psychiatric symptoms are the result of a primary psychiatric issue, the medical illness, the medications being used or a combination of all these factors and then make appropriate recommendations to best help the treatment teams provide optimal care for their patients.
