Title
Preoperative Cognitive Screening to Identify Older Patients At-Risk for Postoperative Delirium
Study Description

Participants (60 Years of age or older) undergoing colorectal and hepatopancreatobiliary surgery will undergo a preoperative test for orientation, frailty, and a cognitive screening to detect pre-existing physical and cognitive decline as well as a fall history that places the patient at risk for postoperative delirium (POD). Additionally, a mood and substance use assessment will be performed. The amount of medication participants receive during the perioperative period will be recorded. Any cognitive changes that occur during a participant's hospital stay are to be monitored and Participants' hospital charts may be reviewed to determine the causes of any cognitive changes.

Follow-up evaluations will be performed at the time of discharge and with a short phone call at 1 week, 1 month, and at 3 months from the date of discharge.
