Volunteer Opportunities: Guest Relations and Clerical
Escort
Monday-Friday, mornings or afternoons
Two volunteers needed each shift. Specific start/stop times are flexible. You will
create a welcoming environment and provide assistance to patients, families and
visitors in campus lobbies. You may assist in directing, transporting or escorting
individuals to their destination. In addition, you will sometimes deliver mail to
patients.
Gift Shop
Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-4 p.m.
Saturday, 9 a.m.-3 p.m.
Four-hour shifts available whenever the shop is open. Gift Shop volunteers should
be friendly, outgoing and willing to help staff, patients and visitors. You will
assist with merchandise displays, pricing, customer service and cashiering.
Information Desk
Monday-Friday, mornings or afternoons
Volunteers are used at five lobby information desks on campus. Volunteers greet
patients, visitors and staff in person or on the telephone, provide specific directions,
information and assistance regarding location of services. If physically able, volunteers
may assist patients with wheelchair transportation to their destination.
General Office
Monday-Friday, mornings or afternoons
Many opportunities exist in medical and administrative offices for volunteers to
assist with general office duties. Volunteering in these areas is a great way to
update job skills and acquire on-the-job experience. Volunteers greet customers,
answer telephones, assist with special projects, file documents, run errands, use
office machines, perform data entry and other computer work.
Magazine Delivery
Monday-Friday, mornings or afternoons
Volunteers are needed to work out of the Volunteer Services Department preparing
donated magazines for delivery. Follows delivery routes to waiting areas and outpatient
clinics.
Surgery Waiting
Monday-Friday, mornings, afternoons or early evenings
Four-hour shifts available on weekdays. This challenging area enables volunteers
to provide general assistance and emotional support to patients and their families
before, during and immediately following surgeries. Using the surgery schedule,
you will keep track of patients and their family members. You will maintain close
contact with the OR and recovery room staff. You will also provide a coffee service
for the families. Due to the volume of surgeries and the conditions of some of our
patients, this area can be very busy and hectic at times.
