Kilkenny takes over as president of the Florida Chapter of the American College of Surgeons

A University of Florida College of Medicine-Jacksonville professor of surgery is the new president of the Florida Chapter of the American College of Surgeons.

John W. Kilkenny III, M.D., was elected last month at the chapter’s annual meeting in Sarasota. Kilkenny is a past president of the Duval County Medical Society, and has also been active on the national level, having served on the Board of Governors of the American College of Surgeons.

Kilkenny’s recent professional and research focus has been on malignant diseases of the breast and skin. He went to medical school at Pennsylvania State University, Hershey and stayed in Pennsylvania to complete his residency at Polyclinic Medical Center in Harrisburg.

Kilkenny started his career in private practice for five years, before going to Gainesville to receive surgical oncologic training at UF. He stayed with UF as director of surgical endoscopy and residency training at Lake City VA Medical Center before coming to the UF College of Medicine-Jacksonville in 1995.
