New clinical fellowship offered in speech-language pathology

UF Health Jacksonville

UF Health Jacksonville is starting an annual fellowship in speech-language pathology. The fellowship will take place July 1 through June 30 of the following year.

The American Speech-Language Hearing Association requires a clinical fellowship and independent professional training in the field of speech-language pathology. Our hospital’s wide range of health care services provides an ideal environment for the clinical fellow (CF) to develop clinical confidence and skills in caring for a very diverse population of patients.

The program mirrors the medical resident model of post-graduate education and provides a CF with experience in diagnosing and managing various disorders and injuries, including communication and swallowing disorders, acute stroke, head/neck cancer, head/neck trauma and traumatic brain injuries.

The CF will receive on-site supervision and daily interaction with experienced staff while performing videofluroscopic swallow studies, tracheostomy care and PMV assessments. In addition, the CF will be able to apply knowledge gained from academic coursework to develop clinical skills consistent with the current scope of speech-language pathology practice.

The fellowship will operate under Vanie Jones, PT, DPT, director of Rehabilitation Services. Leslie Miller, MS, CCC-SLP; Sarah Reising, MS, CCC-SLP; William Murdock, MS, CCC-SLP; and Stephanie Davis, MS, CCC-SLP, will work together to administer the program.
