Masood recognized as one of America’s Top Doctors

Shahla Masood, MD, a professor and chair of pathology and laboratory medicine at the University of Florida College of Medicine – Jacksonville, has been named one of America’s Top Doctors for Cancer for 2013 by Castle Connolly Medical Ltd.

Masood is one of more than 2,600 cancer-care physicians to receive the distinction this year from Castle Connolly Medical Ltd., which publishes books to recognize top-performing physicians and help consumers find the best health care.

This is the company’s ninth edition of America’s Top Doctors for Cancer. Masood and the other winners are considered to be among the top 1 percent of physicians in the country — in more than 40 specialties and subspecialties — for cancer care and treatment.

“Selection for the guide is an impressive accomplishment worthy of recognition,” said John Connolly, president and CEO of Castle Connolly Medical Ltd. “The United States is home to so many talented and committed cancer-care professionals, yet some stand out.”

Each year, winners are selected from a pool of tens of thousands of nominations, which are submitted online by peers. Castle Connolly Medical Ltd. has a physician-led research team that considers a host of criteria, including medical education, training, hospital appointments and disciplinary histories.

Masood is internationally recognized as an expert in breast cancer diagnosis and prognosis. She is the founder and editor-in-chief of The Breast Journal and founder and past president of the International Society of Breast Pathology.

She directs the cytopathology and breast pathology fellowship programs at the UF College of Medicine – Jacksonville. She is also the medical director for cytopathology and medical director of the UF Health Breast Center.
