UF Health Jacksonville honored again as Magnet organization

Nursing and support staff continue to be considered among the best in the country.

The American Nurses Credentialing Center has renewed UF Health Jacksonville’s status as a Magnet® organization, once again singling out the hospital and staff for excellence in health care.

The Magnet Recognition Program® uses a rigorous process to certify the best health care organizations not only across the United States but also across the world. Only 430 out of approximately 5,700 hospitals in the U.S. receive the recognition. UF Health Jacksonville first achieved Magnet® status in 2011, and like other designees has been praised for quality patient care, nursing excellence and innovations in professional nursing practice.

“Everyone at UF Health Jacksonville, from our nursing staff and administrators to everyone who supports them, deserves credit for this recognition,” said Patrice Jones, DNP, RN, NE-BC, vice president and chief nursing officer for UF Health Jacksonville. “We make a concerted effort each and every day to serve every patient with compassion and dignity while always focusing on the best outcomes possible. I could not be more proud of our staff.”

Magnet® designation recognizes health care organizations that provide successful nursing practices and strategies, and signifies high quality nursing to consumers. Nursing staff at UF Health Jacksonville underwent a lengthy application and review process that demanded widespread participation from leadership and staff.

UF Health Jacksonville received its recertification after a lengthy review and was also recognized as having four exemplars, or areas of particular excellence. The exemplars were:

  • Outstanding clinical outcomes in non-ICU codes of tracheostomy patients
  • Implementing early enteral feedings
  • Emergency Department Nursing Fellowship Program
  • Exceeding benchmarks for improvement in home health patients suffering from dyspnea

“Our organization is so proud to receive this honor, but this is also an achievement for health care in Northeast Florida,” said Russ Armistead, CEO of UF Health Jacksonville. “Our No. 1 goal continues to be quality care. We always say our patients and their families come first, and the renewal of this designation shows that national organizations also notice those efforts.”

Magnet recognition is in effect for four years and can be renewed if an organization reapplies and continues to demonstrate performance according to quality benchmarks and reporting.
