UFCOMJ leaders pleased with Match Day results

The University of Florida College of Medicine – Jacksonville will soon welcome dozens of new residents to campus as they begin their respective training programs.

This year, UFCOMJ offered 89 training positions that span across 11 residency programs. All but two of those positions were filled during last month’s Match Day. The remaining two were quickly filled through a supplemental offer program.

The internal medicine residency program had the most positions filled with 20, followed by emergency medicine at 15 and pediatrics at 13. All of the other training programs had between two and 10 positions filled.

Seventeen of the matched residents come from allopathic medical schools in Florida. Of that group, three are from UF. Meanwhile, 12 other matched residents come from osteopathic medical schools in the Sunshine State.

“We are very pleased with our match results this year,” said Frank Genuardi, MD, associate dean for student affairs at UFCOMJ. “All of our categorical programs filled through the match, and the two preliminary positions that were left available filled immediately afterwards through the National Resident Matching Program's Supplemental Offer and Acceptance Program. We look forward to the new class of residents joining us in July.”

Every year, graduating medical students throughout the country and abroad eagerly await Match Day, when they find out where they will complete their medical training program.

This year’s 89 training positions at UFCOMJ are an increase of seven from 2015. Programs that had new spots available include psychiatry and internal medicine preliminary, which are designated positions for neurology.
