Significant weight loss can result in surplus skin on the upper arm, just as a significant weight gain can cause excess fat in the upper arm. An arm lift, also known as brachioplasty, is a surgical procedure performed to remove extra skin and fat from the upper arms.

An arm lift is typically performed as an outpatient procedure under general anesthesia and takes about two hours to complete. An incision is made, either near the armpit or on the inside of the arm, excess skin and tissue are removed, and the remaining skin is lifted and tightened. The incision is then closed. Side effects may include minor pain, bruising, and swelling.
