Nose reshaping (rhinoplasty)
Nose reshaping, or rhinoplasty, is a cosmetic procedure that is used to change the size or shape of the nose to improve facial appearance. The procedure can also be performed to correct breathing problems. Our surgeons combine specialized training with years of surgical experience to provide you with the best possible outcomes.
Rhinoplasty: What you need to know
- In addition to a review of your medical history and surgical risks, your surgeon will thoroughly discuss your expectations for the procedure, explain what is involved and make recommendations for anesthesia.
- Rhinoplasty is performed on an outpatient basis under general anesthesia. Incisions are made inconspicuously along the nostrils to avoid visible scarring.
- Cartilage is scraped away to remove a hump, or it is broken and meticulously reset to achieve a reduction in size.
- The procedure takes several hours, and side effects can include swelling, bleeding, bruising, headaches and stiffness.
- Daily activities typically can be resumed in one to two weeks after rhinoplasty, but strenuous activity should be avoided for three to four weeks.
