The thyroid gland sits below the voice box, yet when thyroid hormones are out of balance it can affect the whole body. UF Health endocrinologists are trained to recognize the often subtle hints of thyroid disease. In addition, we offer diagnosis and treatment of large thyroid, goiter, thyroid nodules and thyroid cancer.
These conditions are evaluated through blood testing and, if indicated, thyroid ultrasound. Fine-needle aspiration of the thyroid is a procedure that helps the endocrinologist determine the best approach for the patient. Candidates for fine-needle aspiration of the thyroid include patients with thyroid nodules of sufficient size, prior radiation treatment or a family history of thyroid cancer.
