My bio

Francisco Martinez-Wittinghan, M.D., Ph.D., has been a family physician in North Florida for more than 13 years. He was born in Colombia, South America, and graduated from the Universidad del Rosario’s Medical School in 1995. He moved to Stony Brook, New York, where he earned his doctorate in physiology and biophysics.

Dr. Martinez-Wittinghan worked a few years as a researcher and returned to clinical work in the family residency program at Long Island Jewish Medical Center. During his last year of training, he was elected chief resident by his peers and program director.

He is passionate about improving quality, team-based care and completed his master's degree in health sciences informatics through the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. He is now Board Certified in Clinical Informatics. He believes that technology should be used to improve patient care and decrease the burden to health care professionals.

Dr. Martinez-Wittinghan's unique training helps him focus on finding the cause, not just masking the symptoms of disease. He bases patient care on prevention and lifestyle changes that can have a lasting effect on health. He is very compassionate and enjoys counseling, teaching and listening to his patients. His areas of expertise include management of asthma, diabetes, habit modification, hypertension and preventive care.

He and his family enjoy being involved with the community, scouting, bicycling, hiking, going to the beach and walking their dogs.

Dr Martinez-Wittinghan speaks English and Spanish.
