Thomas S. Roukis, DPM, PhD, received his doctorate of podiatric medicine at the California College of Podiatric Medicine in San Francisco and his PhD in healthcare education from Rushmore University through distance-based learning. He completed a three-year podiatric medicine and surgical residency at the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse, WI, followed by an AO International Trauma Fellowship in Mainz, Germany, an American College of Foot & Ankle Surgeons Division 14 European Foot & Ankle Surgery Fellowship, and a Reconstructive Foot & Ankle Research and Surgery Fellowship in Des Plaines, IL.
Dr. Roukis is an attending podiatric surgeon within the University of Florida Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Rehabilitation - Jacksonville in Jacksonville, FL. Dr. Roukis was chief of the Limb Preservation Service in the Vascular/Endovascular Surgery Service at the Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma, WA, where he was also director of the Limb Preservation Complex Lower Extremity Surgery & Research Fellowship which is a Council on Podiatric Medical Education accredited two-year program. He is past president of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons.
Dr. Roukis is editor-in-chief of the American College of Foot & Ankle Surgeons peer-reviewed scientific journal: Foot & Ankle Surgery: Techniques, Reports & Cases (FASTRAC). Dr. Roukis has edited multiple textbooks including: Primary & Revision Total Ankle Replacement: Evidence-Based Management 1st (2015) and 2nd (2021) editions, as well as, Reconstructive and Revision Surgery of the Foot & Ankle (2022). Dr. Roukis has received myriad awards and scholarships related to research and clinical expertise in complex foot and ankle surgery and have served as principal or co-investigator on 22 clinical trials and scientific studies. He has published over 190 peer-reviewed scientific articles and has given more than 425 oral and poster presentations nationally and internationally.
