Ramona Abraham, MS, MT (ASCP)

Ramona Abraham, MS, MT (ASCP) is the Program Director of the UF Health Jacksonville School of Medical Laboratory Science at UF Health Jacksonville. She graduated from East Stroudsburg University with both a B.S. and an M.S. in Biology and then completed her Medical Technology internship at UF Health Jacksonville. She has worked in the laboratory science field for many years as a Laboratory Technologist, Technical Supervisor, Technical Specialist and Education Coordinator. She also has over 10 years of experience teaching Biological Sciences and Medical Laboratory Science at Florida State College at Jacksonville and University of North Florida. She teaches, Hematology, Urinalysis and Microscopy, Immunology and Serology, Management and Educational Methods, and Introduction to Medical Laboratory Science.

Ahmad Alkhasawneh, M.D.

Ahmad Alkhasawneh, M.D., is the director of Hematology and Flow Cytometry Laboratory at UF health Jacksonville. He Joined UF health faculty in 2015 following his residency training in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology and fellowship training in Hematology (hematopathology) and GI/ liver Pathology at UF Health Gainesville. He is currently an associate clinical professor of Pathology, and serves as an attending hematopathologists and general surgical pathologist with focus on GI/ liver pathology at UF health Jacksonville.

Agnes E. Aysola, M.D.

Agnes E. Aysola, M.D. is the one of the faculty members of the UF Health Jacksonville School of Medical Laboratory Science. She received her medical diploma at the Medical School of Budapest, Hungary. She completed her Anatomic and Clinical Pathology residency training in Johnstown, PA and the combined Transfusion Medicine - Blood Bank fellowship in Pittsburgh, PA. She has been at UF Health Jacksonville since 2008 and is an Associate Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, University of Florida College of Medicine-Jacksonville and the Medical Director of the Transfusion Service and the Coagulation Laboratory at UF Health Jacksonville. She has over 20 years of experience of instruction in the areas of transfusion medicine and coagulation.

Brett Baskovich, MD

Brett Baskovich, MD is former director of molecular pathology at UF Health Jacksonville, having recently moved on to Mt. Sinai. He completed medical school and residency at UF Gainesville, and his fellowship in molecular genetic pathology at Montefiore Hospital/the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He is board-certified in anatomic and clinical pathology, molecular genetic pathology, and clinical informatics. He lectures remotely for the molecular portion of the course, and hopes to one day win an Oscar for his lectures.

Brenda Carroll, BS, MT (ASCP)BB

Brenda Carroll, BS, MT (ASCP)BB is the Technical Job Specialist in the Transfusion Service at UF Health Jacksonville. She graduated from California University in California Pennsylvania with a B.S. in Biology and a B.S. in Medical Technology. She completed her clinical internship at Conemaugh Valley Memorial Hospital in Johnstown Pennsylvania. She has over 30 years of experience working in the Transfusion Service/Blood Bank working as a Medical Technologist. During this time she has been involved in many aspects of the Transfusion Service including the education of students, staff and residents.

Matthew Feldhammer, PhD, DABCC, FAACC

Matthew Feldhammer, PhD, DABCC, FAACC is an Assistant Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine and the Medical Director of clinical chemistry, toxicology and point of care testing at UF Health Jacksonville. He received his doctorate in Biochemistry from McGill University and completed postdoctoral fellowship training in Clinical Chemistry at Emory University in Atlanta. Dr Feldhammer is a Diplomate of the American Board of Clinical Chemistry and a Fellow of the American Association of Clinical Chemistry. Dr. Feldhammer has been teaching pathology residents Clinical Chemistry and laboratory administration since 2015 and will be teaching various Clinical Chemistry sections at the UF Health Jacksonville School of Medical Laboratory Science.

Amanda L. Goglia, MLS (ASCP)CM

Amanda L. Goglia, MLS (ASCP)CM is a member of the faculty at the UF Health Jacksonville School of Medical Laboratory Science. She received her Bachelors of Science in Microbiology from Montana State University and completed her Clinical Laboratory Sciences internship at Sacred Heart Medical Center School of Medical Technology in Spokane, WA in 2004. She has worked in the medical laboratory science field for many years as a Medical Technologist, Technical Supervisor, and is currently the Supervisor of Clinical Microbiology at UF Health Jacksonville. She teaches the Clinical Microbiology course and works with students during their Clinical Microbiology Practicum

Jonathan B. Hoyne, PhD, DABCC, FAACC, FACSc

Jonathan B. Hoyne, PhD, DABCC, FAACC, FACSc is an Assistant Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine and the Director of outpatient clinical chemistry, blood gas testing, protein immunology and mass spectrometry at Mayo Clinic Florida. He received his doctorate in Biomedical Research, Molecular Biology from Mayo Clinic Medical School in Rochester, Minnesota. He completed postdoctoral fellowship training in Clinical Chemistry also at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. Dr. Hoyne is a Diplomate of the American Board of Clinical Chemistry and a Fellow of the American Association of Clinical Chemistry as well as a Fellow of the Association of Clinical Scientists. Dr. Hoyne will be teaching various Clinical Chemistry sections at the UF Health Jacksonville School of Medical Laboratory Science.

Ezra Mae Magaya, CLS, SH (ASCP), CLS (AMT)

Ezra Mae Magaya, CLS, SH (ASCP), CLS (AMT) is the Laboratory Education Coordinator at UF Health Jacksonville Clinical Laboratory. She graduated from Silliman University in Dumaguete City, Philippines with a degree in B.S. Medical Technology. She is a Registered Medical Technologist, in the Philippines. She had worked as a generalist as well as a specialist in hematology/oncology and molecular diagnostics. As a generalist and specialist, she have a vast experience in many different laboratory settings including clinical, reference and stat laboratories. In recent years, she have worked for Baptist Medical Center, Jacksonville and Mayo Clinic Florida. As a laboratory educator, she have facilitated students and new hires in the laboratory. She attained her supervisor’s license in Florida and a specialist in hematology through ASCP.

Yvette S. McCarter, PhD, D(ABMM)

Yvette S. McCarter, PhD, D(ABMM) is the Medical Director of the UF Health Jacksonville School of Medical Laboratory Science. She received her doctorate in Clinical Microbiology from the Medical College of Virginia and completed postdoctoral fellowship training in Public Health and Medical Microbiology at Hartford Hospital in Connecticut. She has been at UF Health Jacksonville since 2001 and is a Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, University of Florida College of Medicine-Jacksonville and the Director of Clinical Microbiology at UF Health Jacksonville. She is also a Diplomate of the American Board of Medical Microbiology. She teaches the Clinical Microbiology course and works with students during their Clinical Microbiology Practicum.

Ann Nelson, MHA BSBM, AS, MLT (ASCP), CHT (ACHI), ACHE

Ann Nelson, MHA BSBM, AS, MLT (ASCP), CHT (ACHI), ACHE is the Molecular Pathology /Flow Cytometry Supervisor at UF Health Jacksonville. She graduated with her A.S. in Medical Laboratory Technology in 1983 and worked in Blood Bank from 1983 to 1988. She then specialized in Histocompatibility for 8 years at Methodist hospital. She transferred to UF Health/Shands Gainesville and worked in Transplant Technology for 20.6 years prior to becoming the supervisor at UF Health Jacksonville. She went to University of Phoenix and graduated in 2006 with her B.S. in Business Management. She completed her MHA in May 2022 and is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives.

Sonia Rivera, BS, MT (ASCP)

Sonia Rivera, BS, MT (ASCP) is a Faculty member at the UF Health Jacksonville School of Medical Laboratory Science at UF Health Jacksonville. Her specialty is Immunohematology, Blood Bank and Transfusion Medicine. She graduated from the University of Puerto Rico with a B.S. in Biology and a minor in Chemistry. She obtained her post Bachelor certificate in Medical Technology at the Interamerican University of Puerto Rico. She has worked in the clinical laboratory field for over 20 years as a Medical Technologist, Senior Staff Specialist and Supervisor. She has been at UF Health Jacksonville since 2015, where she supervises the Transfusion Service. She teaches the Blood Bank and Transfusion course and works with students during their Clinical Blood Bank Practicum.

Crispina Marie Sy-Trias, MPH, MLS(ASCP)CMMCM, MT(AMT)

Crispina Marie Sy-Trias, MPH, MLS(ASCP)CMMCM, MT(AMT), is the Laboratory Education Coordinator at UF Health Jacksonville Clinical Laboratory. She has a bachelors in Medical Technology and a Master’s degree in Public Health from Silliman University Philippines and is working on a dissertation for her Ph.D. in Public Health. She is certified by the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) and Microbiologist (M), certified by the American Medical Technologist (AMT), and licensed as Clinical Laboratory Supervisor by the State of Florida. She taught Medical Technology classes for seven years at Silliman University, Philippines, and has worked as a generalist Medical Technologist for five years and as a Microbiologist for 15 years.

Kathryn L. Voorhees, MHA, MLS (ASCP)CM

Kathryn L. Voorhees, MHA, MLS (ASCP)CM is a member of the faculty at the UF Health Jacksonville School of Medical Laboratory Science. She received her Master’s in Healthcare Administration from the University of North Florida in Jacksonville, FL, and a Bachelor of Science in Clinical Laboratory Science from the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, NE. She has worked in the medical laboratory science field over 20 years as a Medical Technologist, Technical Supervisor, and is currently the Supervisor of Hematology and Coagulation at UF Health Jacksonville. She teaches the Hematology course and works with students during their Hematology Practicum.

Ryan Wilke, MS, MLS (ASCP)

Ryan Wilke, MS, MLS (ASCP), is the Technical Laboratory Specialist at the UF Health North Laboratory. He received his Bachelor’s in Medical Technology from Old Dominion University and started working at UF Health Downtown Blood Bank in 2015. He became the Blood Bank Technical Specialist in 2020 at UF Health North. In 2021 he graduated from Rush University’s Masters of Laboratory Management program with a specialty in Blood Bank.
