Cancer Support Groups

Breast Cancer Support Group, a monthly group that provides positive support to women who are currently being treated for — or are survivors of — breast cancer. Join us as we look to encourage one another, share information and provide resources. Meetings will be held the first Thursday of each month at 5 p.m. at the UF Health Jacksonville Tower II, 580 West 8th St., 10th floor, Coleman Conference Room. Support for People with Oral and Head and Neck Cancer is dedicated to meeting the emotional, physical and humanistic needs of oral and head and neck cancer patients and their caregivers. Meetings offer information, support and encouragement to newly diagnosed patients, survivors, family members and friends in a friendly, non-threatening forum. Survivors discuss their experiences, coping strategies and hopes. Meetings are held the first Tuesday of each month from noon to 1 p.m. on the UF Health Jacksonville campus in the Learning Resource Center, 653-1 West 8th St., first floor, Ash Room. Childbirth & Parenting

Childbirth Education, a monthly class offered through the Little Miracles program. Classes cover topics on childbirth, labor and delivery and breast feeding. Classes are offered at the UF Health Jacksonville Tower II, 580 West 8th St., tenth floor, Coleman Conference Room on the following days and times:

  • Tuesdays (every other month), 6-8 p.m.
  • Saturdays (every other month), 9-11 a.m.

Neuroscience Support Groups

The ALS Association Florida Chapter offers monthly educational and support group meetings for persons with ALS and family members. Group meets the second Saturday of each month from 1 to 3 p.m. at the VITAS Innovative Hospice Office, 7406 Fullerton Street, Suite 105, Jacksonville, FL 32256. Caregivers Support Group, a monthly support group for family members and caregivers of neurology patients, meets the second Tuesday of each month from 12:30 to 2 p.m. at the UF Health Jacksonville Tower I, 580 West 8th St., fourth floor, inside Tannahil Glen M.D.'s office. Epilepsy Support Group, a monthly support group for seizure/epilepsy patients, caregivers and the community. The group meets the fourth Tuesday of each month—January through October—from 6 to 8 p.m. at the UF Health Jacksonville Tower I, 580 West 8th St., second floor, Mason Room. The Multiple Sclerosis Support Group meets every other month beginning in January on the first Thursday of the month from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the UF Health Jacksonville Tower II, 580 West 8th St., tenth floor, Banquet Room. All community patients, caregivers and families are welcome to attend free of charge. These are physician-directed educational sessions that address all aspects of multiple sclerosis care and research. Myasthenia Gravis Support Group, a monthly support group for Myasthenia Gravis patients and their families, meets on the first Saturday (every even month) from 1 to 3 p.m. at the UF Health Jacksonville Tower II, 580 West 8th St., first floor, Blue Room. For more information, call 904-244-9922.

Parkinson Support Group, meets on the second Wednesday of each month from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. (holiday schedules may vary) on the UF Health Jacksonville campus in the Towers, 580 West 8th St. Signs will be posted at the entrance indicating which conference room and directions.   • Tai Chi classes for patients and their caregivers with neurology conditions such as Parkinson's, stroke, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy and neuropathy are offered every Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m. on the UF Health Jacksonville campus.   • Yoga classes for patients and their caregivers with neurology conditions such as Parkinson's, stroke, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy and neuropathy are offered every Tuesday from 10:30-11:30 a.m. on the UF Health Jacksonville campus. Spinal Cord Injury Support Group, a monthly support group, meets on the second Wednesday of each month from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the UF Health Jacksonville campus in the Learning Resource Center, 553-1 West 8th St., first floor, Birch-Cherry Room. For more information, call 904-244-4427.

Stroke Busters, a monthly support group for stroke patients and their families, meets on the third Tuesday of every month (except December) from 10 a.m. to noon at UF Health Jacksonville Tower II, 580 West 8th St., tenth floor, Coleman Room. Smoking Cessation

Big Step is a is a four-week smoking cessation program open to the public. Some topics include yoga, relaxation and meditation as aids to smoking cessation. $5 per session. The program starts on the first Wednesday of each month and continues through the following three Wednesdays. Meetings are held at 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the UF Health Jacksonville ACC Building, 655 West 8th St., fourth floor, at UF Health Community and Family Medicine – Jacksonville.
