James G. Cain, MD, MBA, FASA, FAAP, DABA, DABA-Peds, DABA-CCM
Dr. James G. Cain is Professor and Chair of Anesthesiology at the University of Florida College of Medicine – Jacksonville. He has advanced specialty training in Adult and Pediatric Cardiac Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine and is triple board certified in Anesthesiology, Pediatric Anesthesiology, and Critical Care Medicine.
Dr. Cain’s career reflects a deep commitment to academic anesthesiology, perioperative medicine, and professional leadership. He currently serves as Immediate Past President of the Trauma Anesthesiology Society and is a Past President of both the International Trauma Anesthesia and Critical Care Society and the West Virginia Society of Anesthesiologists. He has also long served in the American Society of Anesthesiologists House of Delegates and contributed to numerous committees and boards across local, national, and international levels.
An active scholar and educator, Dr. Cain has authored more than forty peer-reviewed publications and book chapters and delivered over three hundred invited lectureships, including more than one hundred international presentations. Recognized as a highly rated teacher and mentor, he has helped shape educational programs, assessment strategies, and leadership models that strengthen both professional development and patient care.
Dr. Cain completed his anesthesiology residency and fellowships at Harvard’s Massachusetts General Hospital and Boston Children’s Hospital, following an internship at Yale. He earned both his MD and MBA from the University of Pittsburgh and his BS in Biology from the University of Scranton, where he also lettered in wrestling. Before joining the University of Florida, he served on the faculties of Harvard, the University of Pittsburgh, and West Virginia University.
