UF CARES advocates for HIV/AIDS awareness in Jacksonville
As a result of the efforts of the University of Florida Center for HIV/AIDS Research, Education and Service (UF CARES), Mayor John Peyton has proclaimed March 10th as Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day in the City of Jacksonville.
Although the Affordable Care Act and National HIV/AIDS Strategy and the National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day are important and productive steps in the fight against the disease, it was felt that there was still much that can be done at the local level.
In honor of the first City of Jacksonville Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day, UF CARES hosted an information booth in the University of Florida College of Medicine-Jacksonville Emergency Department, March 10, 2011, providing pamphlets and education material, as well as free, confidential HIV and pregnancy testing.
