Awareness is Power
One major event the committee organizes is the UF Health Breast Health Awareness Expo. The purpose of the expo is to educate women about the importance of early detection and inform them about resources available in the community.
Each year, UF Health Jacksonville staff and University of Florida College of Medicine – Jacksonville faculty collaborate in multiple ways to promote breast health and breast cancer awareness. UF Health Surgery – Jacksonville and UF Health Hematology and Oncology – Jacksonville formed a committee to ensure a successful and dedicated effort to provide education to patients and the community.
One major event the committee organizes is the UF Health Breast Health Awareness Expo. The purpose of the expo is to educate women about the importance of early detection and inform them about resources available in the community.
Attendees can expect to find the following at the UF Health Breast Awareness Expo:
- Simulated instructions for self-breast exams
- Information on prevention and early detection of breast cancer
- Community resources for patients and family members
- Mini massages
- Genetic counseling
- Information on assistance programs for chemotherapy medications
- Information from pharmaceutical reps on site
- Assistance with social services
The expo will also include an “ask-me-anything table” where attendees can consult with our physicians.
Featured partners for this event include the American Cancer Society, First Coast YMCA, Bosom Buddies, Florida Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program, Florida State College at Jacksonville Massage Therapy Program and University of Florida Health Proton Therapy Institute.
This event is open to the public, and all are welcome to attend. The UF Health Breast Health Awareness Expo will be held at the River City Marketplace from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 5.
