Frequently Asked Questions

How do I access my scheduled Virtual Visit?

1. Access MyUFHealth for Desktop/Laptop

2. Download Zoom and MyChart

3. Find your Virtual Visit under "Appointments" and click "Begin Video".

What is a virtual visit?

A virtual visit provides remote delivery of health care services and clinical information using telecommunications technology, such as a computer, smartphone or tablet.

How common is telemedicine?

Telemedicine is a significant and rapidly growing component of health care in the United States. Over half of all U.S. hospitals now use some form of telemedicine. Around the world, millions of patients use telemedicine to monitor their vital signs, remain healthy and out of hospitals and emergency rooms. Both patients and health care providers alike download health and wellness applications for use on their cell phones. It is a continually growing practice.

Do I qualify to participate in this type of appointment?

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, new and existing patients are eligible for Virtual Visits through UF Health. Call (904) 383-1052 for more information about eligibility and to make an appointment.

Does my health insurance pay for telemedicine?

Thirty-one states and the District of Columbia require that private insurers cover telemedicine the same as they cover in-person services, but Florida is still working on this legislation. Many insurers cover at least some portion of telemedicine appointments. Florida Medicaid covers virtual visits in many cases.. Please contact your insurance provider to confirm if the company covers telemedicine services.

What do I need to participate?

In order to participate successfully in the UF Health Virtual Visit appointment, the following technical recommendations are required:

  • Charge mobile devices to at least 50 percent before appointment times.
  • Find a quiet space with adequate lighting.
  • Wired internet connections are the most reliable when available. Wi-Fi and 4G/LTE are also acceptable.
  • Rotate device to landscape mode and set at a fixed angle.
  • Use Wi-Fi if you have a cellular data limit for your device.
  • Wear ear buds with a built-in microphone to improve audio.
  • Georgia residents will need to access an approved presentation site for visits. UF Health has a variety of site location partners in Southeast Georgia.

Will my visit be recorded?

The video component of the visit is not archived or recorded. Your physician or provider will document a note in your chart as they would if you were seeing them in person.

Is my visit secure?

Yes. You will access the secure link to your appointment through your MyChart account. The connection between you and your provider is secure. A customer service representative will enter your virtual exam room to verify your information in the medical record, make sure the audio and video is working, and collect your payment. Then they will notify your provider that you are ready to be seen, notify you of any wait time and leave your virtual room. During your appointment, your physician will put a note on his or her door to let others know that he or she is seeing a patient virtually and must not be interrupted.
