Visitation Volunteer

Any day, 9 a.m.-7 p.m.
Some of our volunteers function as ambassadors of goodwill by visiting and interacting with patients, families and staff. A smiling face and caring attitude can make all the difference for those who are ill and alone. Visiting volunteers often bring encouragement, hope and joy to patients who might otherwise have no visitors.

Outpatient Clinics

Monday-Friday, mornings or afternoons
Volunteers work in outpatient areas to help provide a welcoming environment. You will provide customer service, emotional support and comfort to patients, families and visitors. You will assist staff with general and clerical tasks and coordinate support groups. Working in a clinic provides an opportunity to expand one's knowledge of a specific field of medicine.

Partners in Care

Any day, 7 a.m.-9 p.m.
These volunteers assist our nursing staff by providing general nonclinical support to patients and families. Volunteers perform various tasks such as distributing and retrieving meal trays, serving ice and water, touring families around the unit and hospital, delivering lab tests and assisting with patient transportation. Partners in Care may be assigned to:

  • Emergency Department (great for exploring medical careers)
  • Medical and surgical units
  • Selective intensive care units

Dog Therapy

Days and Times Vary
UF Health Jacksonville's dog therapy program ensures a positive experience for patients, visitors and staff. Our policy allows registered therapy animal teams that meet certain requirements to visit patients.

Arts in Medicine Volunteer

Days and Times Vary
Some volunteers choose to work closely with our Arts in Medicine team to interact with patients by using various art forms — painting, crafts, stenciling, music and more — to promote positive medical outcomes. This opportunity is best for a volunteer who is comfortable working at a patient's bedside and has good communication skills.
