Services
To better understand the services and treatments offered by UF Health Plastic Surgery at Jacksonville, it is important to know the meaning of plastic/cosmetic surgery and reconstructive surgery.
- Plastic surgery - Plastic surgery is the surgical repair, reconstruction or restoration of body parts. It can be either cosmetic or reconstructive in nature.
- Cosmetic surgery - Cosmetic surgery is performed to improve the appearance of the body and often improves self-esteem. Cosmetic surgery is typically not covered by insurance.
- Reconstructive surgery - Reconstructive surgery is performed to correct irregularities due to birth defects, disease and traumatic injuries. The goal is to establish proper functioning and improve appearance. Reconstructive surgery is usually covered by insurance, depending on the carrier and policy.
During your consultation and evaluation, your UF surgeon will thoroughly explain and demonstrate your procedure, as well as discuss pre- and post-operation guidelines. As with any surgical procedure, there are risks involved. These risks will be clearly defined so that you are completely informed before any medical service is performed.
