Informatics

Informatics specialists maintain pharmacy information systems (inpatient and outpatient) in coordination with pharmacy and IT teams, resolve service requests and respond to questions regarding pharmacy service, assist patient safety initiatives by implementing and maintaining clinical medication databases for drug interactions/duplications, allergies, dose appropriateness, etc., educate and train pharmacy personnel, including pharmacists, students, residents and technicians, and manage data from various Pharmacy systems to produce reports and information as requested.

Clinical Research

The clinical research division strives to promote and responsibly conduct ethical medical research to advance our knowledge of healthcare for all.

The division has been in operation for 30 years. With its highly skilled staff of pharmacists who are either certified clinical research coordinators or are working toward certification, the division achieves its mission. The division's professionals also depend on support staff and over 30 pharmacists who can provide 24-hour on-call service.

The division of clinical research is also responsible for the investigational drug service, for fostering departmental research and for providing educational opportunities for faculty, residents and students.

Stewardship (Antimicrobial or Pain Management)

Stewardship pharmacy specialists focus on infectious diseases or pain management. They monitor select medications (in their area of practice) to evaluate appropriateness of use, dose, dosage form, regimen, route, and drug interactions; provide support to committees within their scope of practice; serve as a liaison between pharmacy and other disciplines or departments; coordinate medication use evaluations as necessary for high use, high cost and high-risk medications; implement, communicate, and monitor practice related policies and decisions within the hospital; develop and implement cost effectiveness strategies through formulary management; participate in the academic programs and educational initiatives in the department; and provide direct patient care services.
